Apple Crumble Recipe

Apple Crumble served with Ice Cream

Apple crumble is a classic, comforting British bake which I learned how to make in high school. Its a recipe I have never forgotten and I always try to make it my own. This recipe features some juicy apples, a biscuity topping and is best served warm.

Ingredients:

For filling:

  • 6 apples (peeled, cored and diced)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp lemon/lime  juice

For crumble:

  • 120g flour of choice ( I used self raising and coconut flour)
  • 75g cold vegan butter/ coconut oil (I used both)
  • 75g brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Lets get cooking…
  1. Put all the filling ingredients into a sauce pan, add water and boil on a medium-high heat until the apples are almost soft. Taste and add sugar if  needed.
  2. Drain the water and place cooked apples in an oven proof dish.
  3. Place all dry ingredients (flour, sugar and cinnamon) into a bowl and mix the ingredients with a fork.
  4. Add the butter/coconut oil into the dry mixture and rub with your fingertips until the mixture resembles moist breadcrumbs.
  5. Pour the crumb mix over the cooked apples, spread it out evenly and sprinkle extra sugar over the top.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes on a medium-high heat or until golden.
  7. Serve with ice cream, cream or custard and Enjoy!!!
